On Friday we had the pleasure to visit the Tuve plant of Volvo Trucks in Göteborg. We got a tour from Atieh Hannah and Kristofer Bengtsson along the impressive production line, where they produce a 100 highly customized trucks per day. Since each truck is unique, the plant is very challenging to automize. However, that does not deter them from trying and a recent success story is from their GPSS system, which are autonomous ground transport vehicles that can do just in time deliveries of components to the main line (see picture).

During the visit, we also discussed the future challenges of Volvo Trucks and what they see on their automation roadmap, such as Bin Picking and Kitting applications. We are looking forward to host Volvo Trucks next year at our lab to discuss possible collaborations.
